Fall In Love With Ashlyn Chase by Ludvica Boota #romanceconference

Ashlyn Chase

I first met Ashlyn Chase earlier this summer at the Romancing the Capital Conference 2017 (RTC) in Ottawa. She was one of the participating authors who sat on a few very interesting panels. This fun loving author, who enjoys connecting with her fans, currently has a paranormal romantic comedy series Love Spells Gone Wrong published by Lachesis Publishing. A fabulous series that offers a touch of romance and a dash of a comedy, a cozy read that goes perfectly with a steaming hot cup of cocoa on a cool fall evening!

With her own conference coming up, Fall in Love with New England and several books on the horizon, it was a miracle she had some extra time to connect with me and give us a glimpse into what she’s up to this fall.

LB: I always find it interesting to hear how authors come up with their idea for stories. With the Love Spells Gone Wrong Series there is a whole host of colorful characters, witchy events and a touch of mystery. How did you come up with the idea for this series?

AC: Oh, boy. I don’t know. I’ll just blame it on my muse, Thalia—the muse of comedy!

LB: At RTC 2017 you were on the “Adding a giggle to books” panel where you talked about adding comedy to your work and fans of the Love Spells Gone Wrong Series have often commented on how “sweet, sexy and funny” the books are. How important is the element of comedy in this series?

AC: Comedy is extremely important to me. Writing is hard work, and in my humble opinion, entertaining myself is essential to enjoying the process. What is it they say? If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life?

Readers can tell when your heart is in it and when it’s not. If I’m making myself chuckle, the readers will get a smile out of it too. I get fan mail saying, ‘I love your books. They’re a great escape…or, they helped me through a hard time.’ That’s when I know I’ve paid it forward, what an honor and privilege!

LB: Are there any other books planned for the Love Spells Gone Wrong Series?

AC: If I can ever find the time! I’m under contract for 2 more novels—and I promised a Kindle Worlds story to a fellow paranormal romantic comedy author. And then there are two more series ideas burning a hole in my brain. Maybe I can find a way to link them all together. LOL

LB: What other books are you working on right now?

AC: The Phoenix Brothers series. Seven brothers. All phoenix shapeshifters. And all but one are firefighters. If the worst happens, they can rise from the ashes. Yup, the legend is real, folks!

LB: “Fall in Love with New England” (I love this name! it’s so perfect) is a romance reader conference that has been organized by romance writers. This year it is taking place on October 13-14, 2017 at Best Western Executive Court Inn & Conference Center in Manchester, New Hampshire US.  As one of the founding organizers, how did the idea for this conference come about?

AC: I kept wishing there was a romance reader/author conference close enough that I could drive to it. Upon meeting an organizer who puts on conferences all over the country, I asked if she’d consider one in New England. She said (haultily) ‘We’ll never go to New England. Boston is too expensive and it has to be near an airport.’ Okaaay…

Meet the real Ashlyn Chase. Never say never—I’ll take it as a dare. LOL. We have more than one airport in New England, and I found a lovely conference center and banquet hall about a mile from the Boston/Manchester Regional Airport. They even have a free shuttle! The hotel rates really drop after Columbus Day weekend, and that’s peak foliage season in NH. To me, it was a no brainer. Booked it. Paid the deposit. Got to work! 2016 was our first year and everyone had tons of much fun! By Sunday morning my conference committee and I decided we wanted to do it again. There’s still time for readers to register! www.fallinlovewithnewengland.com

Oh, and did I mention NH has no sales tax? Come and do your Christmas shopping! The Mall of NH and a new outlet mall are nearby.

LB: What are some of the fun, exciting events, and activities that are planned for readers?

AC: Here’s an updated list of attending authors. http://fallinlovewithnewengland.blogspot.com Some of the fun for readers (besides what’s listed on our website) can be found on our Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/973500356041070/ This year we’ll be doing charm bracelets! I provide the empty bracelet and authors will give readers a charm representing their book—just for the asking!

LB: For authors who are looking at ways to market and promote themselves, do you believe participating in genre/industry conferences are a good promotional tool to invest in?

AC: Yes! The face-to-face interaction with readers is priceless! As a reader myself, I’ll buy a book from someone I’ve met and considered a friend a lot faster and more frequently than I will from an author I’ve just heard of. Here we make friends. Because this conference is still small, it’s easy!

LB: On a personal note, as an author, do you enjoy attending conferences?

AC: I love reader/author conferences, although I have to say I’ve been a little bummed out by the huge ones lately. Everyone wants to meet the famous authors. Mid-listers like me get lost. I enjoy the book signings at the smaller conferences, and believe it or not, I sell a lot more books even though there are fewer readers. Why? Because we’ve had time to become friends!

LB: You are one busy author! With all your commitments, do you still find time to read for pleasure? And if you do, what do you love to read?

AC: If I have time and my brain hasn’t completely turned to mush at the end of the day, I love to read. I may only have time for a chapter, but a good book is a treat I can dole out slowly.

I just finished Mary Janice Davidson’s first book in her new Insighter series. Deja Who. Very funny and unique. I will be starting Robyn Peterman’s second book in her Magic and Mayhem series tonight. And guess what? She invited me to write a book in her Kindle World! So, of course, that means I’ll be reading her whole series back-to-back for the next few weeks. Lots to look forward to!

LB: I like that you mentioned earlier that old saying, If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life”. If you were not a romance writer, what do you think you would be doing?

AC: I’d probably sell real estate or stage houses. I was trained in Interior Design and my guilty pleasure is HGTV… Oh, by the way, romance novels are not my guilty pleasure. I don’t feel guilty at all for enjoying my life!

LB: Thank you again, Ashlyn for your time. I know how precious it is!

AC: Thanks for the interview! It was fun and I appreciate the chance to reach more readers.

LB: Anyone looking to catch up with Ashlyn at her Fall in Love with New England conference, the details are below. For those who can’t attend the full conference, there will be a book signing as well!

Ashlyn Chase Bio

Ashlyn Chase describes herself as an Almond Joy bar. A little nutty, a little flaky, but basically sweet, wanting only to give her readers a satisfying experience. She holds a degree in behavioral sciences, worked as a psychiatric RN for several years, and spent a few more years working for the American Red Cross. She credits her sense of humor to her former careers since comedy helped preserve whatever was left of her sanity. She is a multi-published, award-winning author of humorous erotic and paranormal romances, represented by the Seymour Agency.

She lives in beautiful New Hampshire with her true-life hero husband who looks like Hugh Jackman with a salt and pepper dye job. They are owned by a spoiled brat cat.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT:

Pretty Wiccan Rebecca Colby borrowed money from her father to start a bakery, and now he’s calling the loan due. When she learns he fell off the gambling wagon and owes big money to some scary people, she has to start making a profit—and fast—before the loan shark takes a bite out of her.

Hot Cowboy Dru Tanner is looking for his missing sister who left Texas to explore their New England Wiccan roots. She’s the only family he has left, and he’s desperate to find her. Dru has to hide the fact that he’s not a Wiccan long enough to infiltrate a coven in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It’s the only lead he has.

Dru needs a job and a place to stay while he searches for his sister. Rebecca needs cheap help so she can work some baking magic. Dru makes Rebecca an offer she can’t refuse—if only lust doesn’t drive them crazy first.

READ AN EXCERPT:

The bell above the door tinkled, signaling a customer. Jumping to her feet, Rebecca mumbled into the phone, “I’ll have to call you back, Dad.” She hung up and took a deep breath to compose herself.

Plastering a smile on her face, she turned toward the counter and caught her first glimpse of the most incredible man she’d ever seen. He was tall, at least six feet. His jeans hugged lean hips in such a way as to leave little to the imagination, yet he moved in them casually, looking totally comfortable.

When he reached the counter a gorgeous smile softened his rugged features. Blue eyes and sandy brown hair peaked out from under the well-worn cowboy hat. Am I looking at a real live cowboy here in New England?

He tipped the brim of his hat. “Mornin’ ma’am. Or I should say good afternoon. I guess it’s past noontime, after all.”

If he was rambling a little bit, she was grateful for it. She didn’t think she could speak right away.

“I was wonderin’ . . . that help-wanted sign in the window . . . ?”

Shoot. Should she tell the guy she might not be in business very long? Her Wiccan values had her believing that honesty was the best policy, but she could at least let him finish his sentence.

“Yes?” she prompted.

“Well, this is gonna sound pretty stupid if I’m wrong . . .”

His hesitation only lasted a moment. Then he gazed into her eyes with his piercing blue ones. “Are you by any chance a witch? Because if so, maybe we can help each other. I’m willin’ to trade my services for your help findin’ my sister.”

That sure wasn’t what she expected him to say. She almost tipped her head toward the ceiling to thank the Goddess.

“I—uh . . .Yes. I’m Wiccan. Do you want a locator spell?”

“Sure. If that’ll help me find her.” He reached into his shirt pocket and produced a picture of a young woman. She resembled him, but she looked much younger. Long blonde hair tumbled down from a similar cowboy hat, and she wore a checkered shirt, but the major similarities were her blue eyes and easy smile.

Rebecca hadn’t done a locator spell in a long time. And she’d never done one to find a human being, but the trade was a perfect idea. Witches aren’t supposed to make money by performing spells for other people, but a trade to save some money doesn’t count. Does it? She’d ask Hanna, later. For now, she was intrigued by the idea and the cowboy was waiting for an answer.

“Can you bake?”

He laughed. “I can learn.”

“No need. There are plenty of other ways you can help. I’ll have you fill out an application, and later I’ll check your references. By the way, our coven is meeting tonight. Would you be interested in attending?”

His brows shot up. After a brief hesitation he asked, “Do you think that’ll help me find my sister?”

“It might. You could also check out Myranda’s Occult Shop. She’s got loads of expertise and you can find any ingredients you need for a spell there.”

“A spell . . . Uh, sure, I’ll talk to Myranda.”

“Good! I hope to see you tonight,” she said. “I’ll get you that application now, and if your references are good you can start tomorrow.”

“Great. Can I get that application with a side of cherry pie?”

“Sure thing.” She smiled, already feeling a bit lighter.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT:

Faith Hamilton is different. Blessed with the power to draw her ancestors from the past into the present, Faith formed a strong bond with Andrew Byrne, her charming rogue of a “relative” from pre-Revolutionary Boston. Andrew’s first visit when they were both teens led to many more over the years. But despite her close friendship with Andrew, Faith has always felt that her life would never be normal unless she made a drastic change. Now she avoids relationships with people outside her tight family circle, fearing she might be forced to reveal her ability. Instead, she tries to keep it a secret, and her private life hidden as she focuses on her career. For a while she succeeds, until she meets the sexy and dynamic Cody Simpson.

Cody is a mathematician, a man devoted to classifying and defining the world around him.  Once hurt by a woman whose sole focus was her career, not the people in her life, he swore he would never allow himself to be attracted to this kind of woman again—until he meets the beautiful and captivating Faith Hamilton.

Intrigued by Cody, Faith can’t stop her growing attraction to him. Nor can she keep that charming rogue, Andrew from popping into her life whenever he chooses. As she frantically schemes to keep the two men apart, her problems multiply at home, at work, and most of all in her relationship. How long can she keep up this double life? More importantly, what will Cody think if he finds out about her magical power?

EXCERPT:

Footsteps sounded on the staircase. Faith closed her mouth on what she’d planned to say as a male figure emerged from the upper level, running lightly down the stairs. Seeing the two women he hesitated briefly, then he flashed a grin and said, “Hi.

Black hair, blue eyes, muscles in all the right places, Cody Simpson was the kind of man Chloe would appreciate as a son-in-law. He was also the kind of man Faith avoided. She smiled blandly back at him. “Hi.”

“Nice day, isn’t it?” He glanced at Faith, sweeping her with a look that catalogued every part of her, from head-to-toe. Then he deliberately looked from Faith to Chloe, his eyebrows raised.

Very much aware that the slacks she was wearing did little to minimize her height and that her blond hair had started to stray from the restraints that kept it in a tight chignon, Faith wished she knew some way of escape. She didn’t want to introduce Cody to her mother, who she knew would be intrigued by the good-looking man. She knew Cody expected to be introduced and that he wouldn’t understand why a casual, ‘Cody this is my mother, Chloe. Mom, this is Cody Simpson,’ left her frozen in terror. Each and every one of the good manners drilled into her from the time she was tiny was actively demanding she make the simple introduction. Every survival instinct was fighting back, just as intensely, telling her that she’d be a fool to open that door, even a crack.

She swallowed hard, avoided Cody’s eyes, ignored the surprised curiosity emanating from her mother, and said, “Yup.”

Cody raised his brows, then shrugged. “See you later, then.”

“Sure,” Faith said, hoping she wasn’t blushing.

Cody nodded and headed off toward the NIT offices. Faith shoved open the front door.

Outside Chloe said cheerfully, “What a gorgeous male. Who is he?”

Faith shrugged. “Our new systems guy. He lives upstairs so we hardly ever see him.”

“You know him then?”

Faith shook her head. “Not really.” A wash of heat told her that now she really was blushing. Not surprising since she’d just told her mother a whopper. Well, not a complete whopper. What she knew about Cody came from Sue Green. She respected Sue’s opinion enough that she’d wasted more than an hour or two fantasizing about dating Cody Simpson, but she didn’t actually know him the way you do when you talk to someone. Nor was she going to allow herself to get to know him. As attractive as he was, Cody Simpson wasn’t for her. Not now. Not ever.

Failed actress Brigit Love moved back to New Hampshire from Hollywood with one goal: to have a child. So far her only babies are furry and live at the animal shelter where she works. Brigit isn’t willing to marry to get what she wants, so doing things in “the correct order” may not be possible. Even her Wiccan spells don’t seem to be working. Until she comes up with an outrageous idea that just might do the trick.

Handsome tugboat captain Ethan Cox loves his life as a happy bachelor and his only goal is to keep things exactly the way they are. When Irish Eyes Are Smilin’ by Ashlyn Chase (paranormal romance author)

Guess who's been turned into a Leprechaun?
Guess who’s been turned into a Leprechaun?

September is an exciting month!

Several months ago I joked on my facebook fan page that I should go to Ireland to do research for my upcoming Boston Dragon Novels. After all, the first book begins in Ireland and my characters (and thus my readers) make trips back and forth throughout.

So I mentioned it as a joke. Then I realized I’ve been to almost every place I’ve set a book. Just soaking up the atmosphere for a week or so and picking up details of special places helps make my novels richer as a result.

Now this is a library! (Trinity College Library)
Now this is a library! (Trinity College Library)

Yeah, so the joke was on me. My readers began their pressure campaigns. ‘You should go!’ and ‘Absolutely, you should check it out!’ I mentioned this to my dear daughter, whom I call Little Miss Amazing, and she said, “That’s next on my bucket list!”

Well, we haven’t had a long mother-daughter trip since she was 12 when I took her back to Colorado to show

her where she was born. We spent a week, saw more than I did in the two years I lived there, and had a ball. We’re close anyway–more like friends, now that she’s an adult–so it should be a lot of fun.  Someone (I can’t remember who) said ‘Never travel with someone you don’t love.’ Good advice. I’ve done that too. Ugh.

We’re both so excited we can hardly stand it! I already have loads of pictures to share with my facebook fans when I get back! In fact I already started posting them. If you want to see them, just ‘like’ my page and begin following the posts.

TugCover-453x680And if that’s not enough, I have a new release at the end of this month! Tug of Attraction will be coming out 9/28/15. It should be available for pre-orders soon. I’m donating 15% of my royalties to The Endometriosis Foundation of America. If you want to know more about this unspoken of disease, read the book! The heroine suffers from it, and that makes this an unusual romance. My editor said, “I love, love, love it!” I hope you will too!
