Q and A Monday: Get to know our Lachesis Authors (J.M. Griffin)

Welcome to Lachesis Publishing’s first official blog post! Every Monday we’ll feature a Q and A with one of our wonderful authors. Today we feature cozy mystery author J.M. Griffin. J.M. is the author of two cozy mystery series for Lachesis Publishing. The popular (and sexy) Vinnie Esposito series and the fun (and yummy) Deadly Bakery series. When did you first realize you wanted to become a writer and why? As a child, I was an avid reader and my own stories ran through my head. I made up characters and even acted out scenes. My siblings were much older and in private schools, so I felt like an only child, which meant I kept myself in good company with my story lines. It never occurred to me that I should write them down until early in 2003. I just couldn’t get the words out fast enough. When I put them on paper, it was so satisfying, that I knew this is what I was meant to do. Describe your favorite place to write. My favorite place to write is on the sun swing in the back yard during warm weather. In cold months, I’m relegated to my office, which is a sweet room all on its own. What would we find on your desk at this very moment? OMG, I look around and find piles of notes, research materials, Dove chocolates (yummy), a half-filled coffee cup, and, oh yeah, photos of my family. It’s a mess in here right now. What is your tea/coffee beverage of choice when you’re writing? Ice water with a lemon wedge is what I prefer. What do you love to read? I enjoy reading light-hearted stories, whether it be romance, mystery, or suspense. I want something that makes me smile. What is some good advice you can give to an emerging writer? Never, ever give up, is the first thing I’d say. The next would be to learn all you can about craft and join a writer’s group. I found that being with like-minded people to be the best thing that ever happened to me, especially when I began writing. I read all the how-to books, the idiot books on writing, and then I found a fabulous, supportive group here in Rhode Island and I’ve been with them ever since. What do you do after you finish a book? Do you celebrate or take a nap? I dance around the office and have a glass of wine. You’re the author of the very popular Vinnie Esposito series. What’s coming up next for our favorite sexy sleuth? I have three Vinnie stories going at the moment. She has some big changes coming in her life, but I won’t say more than that about them. LOL In the next book, Vinnie saves a new age preacher’s life, the very same preacher who has stepped on the toes of a mob enforcer. To make matters worse, her aunt has become a member of the preacher’s church, much to the dismay of her family members. Mayhem abounds when Vinnie realizes she and her family are once again under scrutiny from the FBI and the RI State Police. You’re also the author of the delectable Deadly Bakery series. What do you have in store for the sassy baker/sleuth Melina Cameron? The series for Melina ends with book three, (which will be coming out soon) but her best friend, BettyJo (tarot reader extraordinaire) will have her own storyline that will now and again include Vinnie Esposito. You love to incorporate delicious food into your books; in fact your books go great with a yummy snack. Why food? Growing up, food was always paramount in our family. Mostly, I think, because my parents lived through the great depression and WW2, when food availability was at a minimum. My mother was a fantastic cook and baker, so I developed a love of good food. While I’m not Italian, I’m married to one, and food to Italians is as important as breathing. Even my children (all grown up, now) have the same fascination with food as the rest of our Italian family does. When I began writing the Vinnie series, it just seemed to fit. Now I find that theme overlaps into my other series of books, like the Melina Cameron series. Who knew? LOL Thanks so much J.M. for sharing with us. Check out J.M.’s latest Vinnie Esposito installment: A Season for Murder. The latest Deadly Bakery series is A Crouton Murder. And look for the final installment of the Deadly Bakery series coming to you soon! Connect with J.M. Griffin on social media: twitter web site facebook
